1887 Checked Wool Costume

41 Bust - 27 Waist

The dress illustrated is made of wool that has a bronze ground finely checkered with écru lines.  A deep bronze velvet revers is on the overskirt, and the basque has revers, collar, cuffs, and pocket flaps of velvet.  Pattern consists of bodice, draperies, skirt and foundation skirt.

Yardage - Approx 8 3/4 Yds 48" wide (I do not know if this includes the extra drapery pieces and the foundation skirt.

#1617 1887 Checked Wool Costume

Erik Theiss

Dress is done in 100% black wool with black double velvet trim and black buttons.  Mr. Theiss changed the way in which the back drapes were hung.

Painted Desert Skirt & Blouse

Navajo women were able to reproduce these clothes creating their own style using the velvets and calicos which were available at the trading posts of the 1870s and using coin buttons and their own silver jewelry.  Reproduced by Buckaroo Bobbins and offered as both skirt and with two blouse designs also comes with complete instructions on authentic broomstick pleating.

Susan's Polonaise

A polonaise is a Polish word for a dress with a tight bodice and a short skirt divided in front and looped, or drawn back, over a longer skirt.  For those "loose women" who refuse to wear a corset, the pattern includes a boned version to produce the same smooth silhouette.  Pattern includes Polonaise, skirt, bustle and complete instructions.

All the components of the pattern are separate and can be combined and layered as desired.  The bodice is period correct, with the pleats in back designed to accommodate the bustles of the 1880's.  It can be made with 3/4 length sleeves or sleeveless.  The drawers, both long and short, are period.  The petticoat and the skirts are a circle skirt.  The petticoat has 3 layers of gathered lace at both the inside and outside hem.  The skirts can be made in a plain circle or gored circle, with or without ruffles.  The overskirt with drape front and bustle back are period correct.  Pattern consists of bodice, circle and gored skirts, overskirt drape, petticoat, drawers, hat and stockings.

Early 1860's Day Dress

Sizes 6-26 Included

All views have a two dart front bodice and a classic curved V, tucked back.  The darts are boned.  The front of the skirt is directionally knife pleated, the sides are box pleated and the back is cartridge pleated (gauged).  The bodice, sleeves and skirt are flat lined with polished cotton.  The skirt has a pocket and is stitched to the bodice.  The bodice has piping at the neck, arms eyes and waist.  Dress has 3 styles of sleeves and also included are a collar and plain under-sleeves.
