The petticoat on the right was made of red flannel, trimmed with a gathered ruffle.  The petticoat on the left was made of blue Merino trimmed with a side pleated ruffle and Spanish lace.  Petticoats can be easily sized up or down.

This inside petticoat was made of white fleece lined piqué, edged with buttonholed scallops around the bottom, and with a frill of Smyrna lace set underneath the scalloped edge.

To the under part of this hoop skirt, which was made of red cashmere, are fastened bands of the same material, which are fastened on buckles.

This is an elegantly trimmed underskirt with train and bustle.  The trimming of the skirt on the under edge consists of a fluting which is stitched on with a bias fold.  Above this is arranged a row of points, trimmed with embroidered edging, and headed with edging and narrow insertion.
