ABOUT AGELESS PATTERNS™©
I am a theatrical costumer and have been building costumes for over 55 years, most recently for the PALM SPRINGS FOLLIES in Palm Springs, CA. When trying to make costumes for period pieces, I have been frustrated at the lack of patterns to choose from, most especially men's styles. I would find a design that I liked and would end up using 3 or 4 different patterns to make a single creation. Before I knew it, I had pattern pieces everywhere and most of the time not in the proper envelope. A few years ago I was talking to some fellow costumers and they all agreed that it would be easier if we had the original patterns. That was how AGELESS PATTERNS™© was born. I have found and collected through the years old magazines with pattern supplements and patterns, and have diligently traced, drafted, marked the straight of grain and added seam allowances. You should see me try to figure out the French, Spanish and German ones. Although these patterns are aimed at theatrical costumers, turn of the century enthusiasts and re-enactors might enjoy these also. Currently, I am looking for more men's patterns, they seem to be few and far between. Who wants the same old back and white tuxes and tails, and who's tired of trying to make suits look like they are period when they are made of bullet proof polyester. All the patterns are done by hand, including the multi-sized ones.
ABOUT THE PATTERNS
The patterns are printed on an engineering copier (another thing on my wish list). I have added 5/8" seam allowances to all the pattern pieces except where otherwise indicated. Where the straight of the grain has not been indicated, I approximate. Sometimes these patterns will be missing pieces (like skirts, foundation skirts, sleeves and collars) because they were in a different issue of the magazine of which I do not possess in my collection. I substitute with one from the same month or year. In some cases they duplicated the sleeves, skirts and collars for 2 or 3 patterns in the same issue, so the little numbers might confuse you. Try a little patience and refer to the illustration. Sometimes pictures of the pattern pieces were not given, a little common sense goes a long way. If you are truly stumped, you can e-mail me and I will be glad to try and answer your questions. It is strongly recommended that you make a muslin or scrap mock-up to check for size. Remember the ease and fit of the bygone days are not what we use for today's fashions. I sincerely hope that you enjoy these patterns as I have had in making them and actually using them to make costumes for different theatrical productions.

Please note that these patterns are reproductions from actual 1800"s patterns. I have added 5/8" seam allowances and approximated the straight of grain when not given. ORIGINAL sewing instructions have been included. Instructions for basic sizing up or down have also been included. With foreign patterns, original instructions and English translation have been included. As these old patterns did not have pattern layouts, I have approximated the yardage required when not given on the original. Please remember that these patterns were sized for that period of time and it is STRONGLY recommended that one make a muslin mock-up to adjust for today's figure.
