|1868 Muslin Bustle
As dresses are now worn gathered very full behind they are supported by means of a bustle, in order to give them a still further appearance. This bustle made of muslin filled with feathers and is worn above the crinoline.
Yardage - Approx 1 1/4 yds 36" wide
|1868 Panier Bustle
As the skirts are now worn en panier it requires a bustle to give them the proper shape. The illustration shows one, which is simple and easily made. It is of white cashmere with muslin lining, scalloped on the outer edge and furnished with steel springs which give it the shape shown in the illustration.

This bustle is of white horse hair, and consists of five sloping pieces of stuff which are pleated and overlap each other.
